I remember midway haulage, they also had AEC with Leyland, old plodders they were known.
Garry,Midway Haulage got took over by Hills of Cardiff, I knew a few of their drivers
I was going up Windy Ridge into Yorkshire in the 60s I had to ring the Fire service one of Pownalls trucks was on fire
on the hard shoulder. Midway Haulage were the first company
in this area to have a Tautliner body on a flat vehicle a
curtain sider it used to work for H J Heinz between Standish
and Kitt Green also in the 60s Midway ran to Nottingham with
Heinz about 6 loads a day always very busy at Kitt Green D.C
Derick it was BRS that worked for Heinz in the 60s up to 80s. British Road Services.
Eddie, it wasn't Howe bridge depot, it was Atherton depot.
I worked Wigan on days and nights in the town centre, the eight wheeler which ran from heinz in Kitt Green to Standish was one owned by Midway haulage out of Golborne. The driver was an 'old' gentleman thin face with a flat cap, same driver each time I saw it which was regular.
Garry, from the sixties to the eighties there were several haulage firms working for Heinz, Midway being one of them.
Gary I don't need you to tell me anything about haulage I
have done 50+ years in it,I see you are upsetting one or two
people on here with your comments try putting your brain in
gear we all know Howe bridge is in Atherton.D.C.
Derick, I'm not upsetting anyone just get the facts right, it's so important to accurately document information. LUT bus depot was Atherton and always known as that, and not Howe Bridge. With all due respect to Eddie, who has been so accurate with all his other great photos and comments.
