Wigan Sea Cadets F.C. were beaten by Holy Family F.C. in the Final played at Victory Park, Newtown, and this re-discovered photo of the runners-up will hopefully go towards complementing Derek Evans's photo of Holy Family F.C. (Sports > Holy Family F.C. for this and Francis Calter's "painful" reminder of the final score).
Back row (l to r): A. N. Other, David Hampson, Alvin Ashton, Philip Gormley, John Unsworth, Jim O'Neill.
Front row (l to r): Barry Hurst, Malcolm Green, Harold Abbott, Eric Gaskell.
I seem to recall the match having been played during my 3rd Year at school and that Francis had indeed received the winners' trophy; but can't recall Derek having to cough up for the damage his wayward clearance had caused to the coach window during the Federation's Inter-League match.
He probably did, though.

Philip, is that Harold Abbott who played at Bispham with us?

Eric: It certainly is!
I'm sure you'll remember how fast he was - caught pigeons for fun.
Hope you're keeping well.

wayward clearance indeed they shouldn't have parked the coach so close to the touch line. I seem to remember there was a whipround to pay for a new window it. Great memories.

Derek: The coach was indeed parked too close to the pitch and your clearance must nevertheless have been dispatched with some relish.
As you've said, "Great memories,"
