Very sad to hear that, Carol. Where was the two photos taken.
They were took in Heaton Street in Lower Ince,
I didn't know Robert but this reminds me Carol, that it was also 50 years ago that a friend of mine was killed in a motor bike accident, Brian Harrison, Brian lived on Broadway in Hindley having recently moved there from Alder Lane, he was just 16 having left school a year before.
Carol i think me and my mate witnessed this accident if its the same one he came over rose bridge and a wagon was pulling out of the street just over the bridge the wagon was all across the road and Robert had nowhere to go resulting in the accident and his unfortunate death.
Carol,I was talking to your Uncle Robert in Manley St were I was building a Wall the morning of his accident. He was older than me but I got on with him very well.I got told about it in the Black Diamond that night.Hard to take it in that night.A good Lad took before his time RIP Robert.
Thank you for your comment Dave, another sad story. Yes Dave Thomas it is the same accident you witnessed. Jimmy, did you or do you live in Lower Ince ? and do you know my mum ?
I knew Robert, we were in the same year at school and all played together as kids. I lived next door to Jimmy Sudworth in Heaton St. Robert was a very happy go lucky lad and very funny at times. I remember the accident well. RIP Robert.
Carol,I lived in Spring View near St Mary's Church .New your Mam.Not seen her for years, hope she is keeping well ,send her my regards.
Dave Thomas did you at one time have a motorbike.
Alan, My mum remembers you she said thank you for your kind message and sends her best wishes, and asks do you still live in the area ?
Jimmy, mum says thank you but which Jimmy are you ? she says she knew plenty Jimmy's in Spring View ha ha ha
Franky still have a motorbike only ride in good weather though, nothing like it on a nice day
Yes I thought it was you, you had/have BSA Bantam some years ago. Good times. You won't remember me, but know your brothers too. I live in Pem now.
Carol,I was the one she used to chase threw the long grass near the Trenchie.( and I never ran fast ).
Carol, please thank your mum for her good wishes. I don't live in the area any more, I left Ince in 1970 and have lived in Scotland for over 40 years. I do come back to Wigan regularly, though.
Ha ha jimmy that should jog her memory...will let you know..and Alan i will update her :)
Jimmy can't believe it's 50yrs since the accident and was a bit emotional when he realised I know he misses Bob even after all these years when he talks about his younger days Bob always comes in the conversation rip Bob
Bob,I remember him well,From the time he blew a hole in the back kitchen door with a 12 bore shotgun, that was in Windleshaw Street we never ran as fast and climbed over the wall into Delegarte Street scared to death. His dad went ape when he got home,Can't remember what happened but i think he was grounded for a while.Funny days those but we enjoyed everything and can laugh about it today,A sad day on Rose Bridge i remember it still.
