Ready for the off Ron?
It looks to me like it has already set off from Station road, and is at bus stop facing Wallgate station.
Jimmy how old are you? that is DEFINITELY Station Road with POOLES Department store, been in there many times as a young lad with my mother.
Sorry Ron, I thought it was the Pooles cafe facing the station.
I can see it's Station road now.
Yes, definitely Station Road. Poole's was taken over by Oxley's. I remember the store as Oxley's and there are photos of it on the Album, but my Mam always called it Poole's, even when it had changed hands.
AH, I remember that shop as Oxleys, but not Pooles
Where did the No 23 go to? Didn't the No 12, go to Abram?
It was also Waring and Gillow after Pooles.
i think its Worsley hall estate
Apologies. I hadn't noticed " Worsley Hall Estate"
The No 12 went to Abram in the 1970s, but not sure before that.
I'm just noting that the bus only has one green light by th side of the destination board instead of the regular 2 which the later buses carried. I was told that it dates back to the times when people could easily identify a Wigan Corpy bus at night by these lights and so didn't use the other more expensive bus companies around at the time
Leyland PD1 built around 1947.
Good photo of the bus and Station Road, Ron.
Definitely Worsley Hall that's where I was brought up.
How many remember the mad rush to get on the last bus home, when the whistle was blown at 11pm.
it was along here that I used to catch the bus home to Platt Bridge when I went to the High School.
Good point old bob. what time is the last bus these days?
Irene. I recollect now, you've jogged my memory. I caught the No12, to the Maypole, Abram, in the very early 1950s. I caught it at Manley Street, Lower Ince.
The number 12 bus went to Abram in the early 1960s too Irene as we would catch that bus when visiting the cemetery at Lower Ince.
