The home of the late Captain Bankes. The grand old gentleman presented me with the Cross Country Trophy for Gold House in the 1969 Highfield races. I won the Senior race on two consecutive years: 1968 and 1969. The race was started on the private road that led up to the estate; continued through the estate itself; then finished coming down Leopold (Wimpey) St to finish going over the Infants' railway bridge, up Billinge Road, and into Highfield School. It was a tough test for any 13 or 14 year old boy. Happy days at Highfield.
