I suppose the lamps were all gas lit lamps.

Ah...'Down t' nick'. A famous rendezvous for lads who collected engine numbers. This place, on a Saturday afternoon, in the summer of 1965, was absolutely chocca with trainspotters. The fence, seen here, was still intact; and I can still hear the shout of Brit! when an engine thundered into view on the elevated main line (not in the picture) on its way towards London via North Western station. I can still smell the flasks of coffee and taste the salmon paste sandwiches...Kids, today...They've ney lived.

Brings back memories of going on the train to Wigan from Platt Bridge with my Mother and Sister.I know it was only a short journey, nevertheless an adventure!

Albert - the waiting rooms were still illuminated by gaslight as late as 1977.

The old 'parachute' water tower! Is it next to the 'fast' line? It's great to have folks like Jarvo who know what they're talking about (unlike me!).
