This is actually Wendy George, winning the Miss Great Britain title, at Morecambe in 1969.

She had the Abbey Lakes pub at Orrell, from 1986 for about fifteen years.

you r both definetely correct, this pic is indeed wendy george both kathleen and wendy entered in 69and wendy got the title i knew almost right away i had uploaded the incorrect picture however its difficult they are very much alike you must admit especially the hair.kathleen also had the abbey lakes pub at one time. may i sincerely apologise for the error as you will see i had already posted kathleen in a lemon swimsuit not only that i only found out through uploading some colour pics the others on here r blk/white that my dear schoolpal and friend rita kathleens sister died in 2012 bit shocked i was excuse the mistake no doubt wigan world will correct this, AS THERES NO WAY I CAN ALTER DETAILS

Rita Kathleen Winstanley was never landlady of the Abbey Lakes. I moved to the Abbey Lakes area in 1962,when Kathleen was still at school and used the pub regularly for the next 25 years, until I moved out of the area when Wendy George had the pub. I was on first name terms with all the landlords, and at different times members of my family had part time jobs there.
I would certainly remember if two beauty queens had kept the pub.

arthur it was my husband that said she had abbey lakes at one time,to be honest i knew one beauty queen r another had the pub .i did argue the fact i always thought kathleen was a dinner supervisor and that she moved out of wigan albeit im sure she must have been on friendly terms with wendy. to be honest it was her sister rita i knew much better as ive said excuse the mix up once again you must admit whatever they both were gorgeous kathleen didnt even get placed in the 69 contest that wendy won at least she has runner up to miss world title 68

yes i stand to yet again b corrected,twas my hubby said it was kathleen i never often ventured into orrell in the 80s was always at the tavern n local pemberton.ok guys you should know.however as you say wendy was another wigan beauti didnt really know kathleen all that well it was rita sad to hearof her passing R.I.P

I seem to recall that when KW won the distinguished title, she was working as a dinner lady at a school in Ashton. Am I wrong?

Well I can tell you now no dinner lady looked like that when I was school in the 60s,or I would have been asking for seconds,and I was in Ashton.

There was more than one school in Ashton, John.

giovani wendy george won miss grt britain 69,yet kathleen winstanley won miss united kingdom and runner up to miss world and in fact had arnold swarzenager stay at her home,she dated a few celebs.on the competition video it says wendy came from derby albeit i now know she based in abbey lakespub for a no of yrs,though she did beat kath;leen in 69 ur cant take it away from kathleen she schieved a lot more in 68 n im told she got no where because of the tatoo on her knee different judges have different choices obviously both were stunners cant choose really theres been some lovely young lassies never got nowhere take a look at kathleens photo on here in blk n white with arnold kathleen was a supervisor over dinners as far as im aware one things for sure the colour pics have brightened u fellows days up ha ha lol
