The pic was taken on a small triangle of grass at the junction of Westwood Lane and Cheltenham Avenue (the end houses of which are behind). The bridge over the WCML is off to the left.
Spent some happy hours on the forms
Rev.David; you could run a competition using this, if you knew their ages. The first person that gets the total of all their ages wins.
Not many of them are wearing specs. A lot of flat caps and just one trilby.
Don`t know the area; what`s in front of them?
Known as Little Jungel
Is this Lower Ince over 60's Rugby Union Team + Mascot.
I lived in Mount View until 1951 and I remember old men, but not as many as on this photo, sitting here and talking to them, particularly one called Mr Gregory who lived in one of the streets behind until he moved away.
I think my grandparents chatted with the men on the form and so I gave them the pleasure of my company, presumably on my way home from school.
I don't remember grass but there were some scrubby bushes at the side and back of the form which wasn't very big - maybe a normal park bench size.
I love photos like this,my.family came from ince and each one of these grand old gents had a tale to tell if only some one had asked, just think of all the times, dates, years, names of family's that they had information of.
Think the guy in the flat cap is joe Gibson. He lived down the lane close to Mary's house. I remember a lady who made pies in the same lane, lovely they were. Can't remember how much they cost but they would fill you for the whole day no problem. Many a guy would take them to work in their pockets. We lived off pies in them days. This lady didn't have a shop she sold from her house, still we called it the pie shop. You could have gravy as well if you wanted. Went down a treat I tell you.
Don't think it's opposite Little Jungle' that's up Ince Green Lane across fro the Manley
I think the man on the end of the back row is George Parkinson my Grandad
