How many Wiganers met their prospective partners at the Court?
Great stuff. Is this taken from a cinefilm? looks like a still from a cine camera to me. Would be nice to see the film footage if indeed it is that. I bet there must be lots of old film of Wigan but sadly people just never show them or make them available on the internet for us to look at.
There is a film called Bygone Wigan, Al. I think you can see it on Youtube.
Hi Al yes it is taken from a DVD belonging to a Wiganworld member, He is selling the DVD for £5.00.plus P&P(to help recoup the cost of having the film transfered to DVD) He has left me a few to sell, so if anyone wants a copy let me know. It lasts for just over an hour and covers Wigan and district from the late 1950's till the 1970's Including St Andrews, St.Annes and the Parish Church walking days and Wigan Fair in the early 1960's etc. etc.
I would love one, Ron. x.
I can tell you roughly where I was sitting, but not who I was with or what we had gone to see. What I do remember is the sight of the British Army's entrance to Belsen.
Hi Irene I'll sort one out for you. I have sold the ones I had I'll ask the guy for another one
Thanks, Ron.
Hi Ron how do i purchase a copy of the DVD please.
Karen, send me an email ron@wiganworld.co.uk and I'll get one for you.
If it's from the Bygone Wigan video then I don't recall seeing those shots. I doubt many people would want to buy the DVD as most seem to want everything given to them for free. Pity there's not much footage like this from the sixties rather than (in my opinion) the rubbish 70s and the overrated Northern Soul Wigan Disco stuff, which for some baffling reason everyone from Wigan seems to be obsessed with and talks about the most. There were much better and happier times before all that stuff came on the scene, but nobody talks about the days of the Court School of Dnacing, it's either Wigan Casino or "do you remember when the Beatles played at the Ritz". Noone mentions when Roy Oribson or Buddy Holly played at the Ritz - decent and talented artists who could actually sing. No wonder Wigan's nightlife now is all about nightclubs and late night boozing.
please Mr Ron Hunt i would like to buy one of ypur Wigan dvds of wigan as i was born in aspull please will you reserve one for me and email me thankyou
Al, it isn't the Bygone Wigan dvd.
Julie sent you an email
Hi Ron - I'd like a copy of the DVD if possible? Thanks
I went to court school of dancing to learn to dance. I then regularly went to the weekend dancing. Stan and Barbara I think were the instructors. Really enjoyed the dancing evenings, and I am still in contact with friends from the Court. Eventually moved on to Bolton Palais where I met wife. Great times they were.
