It's took a further 70 years to capture Britain but frau merkel has done it without blood beng spilt, for we are definitely under the heel of the e.u.now.
Hope they weren't after Uncle Joes Mint Ball factory. They would have been in bother then.
With maps so precise, there wouldn't be much point, in changing all the road signs around, if there was a danger of an imminent invasion. I believe that was one of the jobs, of the Home Guard's plan of action, should the need arise.
Not a pub to be seen. When I was younger everyone gave you directions via the pubs....left at the Smoothing Iron, past the Derby Arms and the Shakie, right at the Minorca and there you were in the middle of Wigan. No doubt the Krauts would have come in from the north, via Whelley past the Von Blucher !!!!
if you'd have gone left at the smoothing iron, you wouldn't have gone past the derby arms !!!!
you would if you was coming up warrington lane !
At least ince isn't on their list..
Thanks t, you got in there before me.....should have got up earlier !
Albert; Your comment reminds me of a scene in `All Creatures Great and Small`. A farmer (played by Joe Gladwin - Wally Batty in `Last of the Summer Wine`) is going to a `phone box to `phone the vet and meets a soldier digging up a three direction wooden signpost. He asks the soldier what he`s doing and the soldier says `to confuse the enemy`. I shouldn`t bother said the farmer, as it`s pointing in the wrong direction and always has.
Gerry, they would not have got to Lower Ince or Spring View my Grandad was in the Hone Guard ,he would have been in the Shepherds Arms Vault watching out for um ,Pint in one Hand Wooden Rifle in tuther hand.
My dad were the doorman at ince labour club he wouldn't have let them in there without a membership card..
