No. 2 pit after electrification to the left. With extension to side of engine house. This contained the new electic motor. By the time the photo was taken, this pit, along with Golborne Colliery was linked underground to Bickershaw. The combined output of the three pits was wound out at Bickershaw.

I think it was late 60s early 70s they were changing a
winding rope on the upcast shaft they had the rope on wooden
drum ,on a railway wagon I don't know what went wrong but it
went off the drum to fast and they couldn't stop it when it
came off the drum it was whipping like a snake it was
knocking girders down and smashing concrete luckily I don't
think anyone got hurt. The rope went down the pitshaft.
