This must have been taken just outside where I used to live many years age Number 253 Wigan Rd

Yes that's right, it was taken outside No. 253, and I lived at 253 until about 91. Next-door there was a chap called George, who lived on his own (can't remember his surname off the top of my head), further up there was a chap who drove for Roy Oxford coaches; he used to often leave his coach parked up at the side of Whitledge Green on Old Road; I believe the company went bust many years ago.

Al the old guy next door must have been George Armstrong. I was living with my Aunt and Uncle at 253 until 1970 when I left for New Zealand They lived until about 1984ish was it you that bought it then.Good place to be short distance from the Star for a pint

Yes, I do remember it was Armstrong now, he used to have a Landrover Defender parked at the back at one time. It would be about 1984 when we moved there. I believe it was owned by Peggy and Jerry Ormshaw, my Grandma's uncle and aunt.

Al we must be related then as Peggy & Jerry Ormshaw were my Aunt and Uncle. Peggy was my mothers Sister( Nee Kenyon) They left the house to me & my Sister Dorothy. She lived in Newton and I lived in NZ so we sold it.

Not blood related though of course. Regarding The Star, my dad was a regular there before it closed down, he remembers having his last pint in there on its closing day, which I am told was about Sept 1986. Just sshame I don't have any photos of the area or the pub before Gorner's expanded his business, although I do have some shots taken from a home video briefly showing the old terraces. It's strange there are no photos of the The Star on here, the only one I know of can be seen in the 'pubs of the past' section.
