Ron. What league were they in, in 1953. Were they still in the " Lancashire Combination?" I watched them a year, or two earlier, when I worked at the Maypole, before going into the forces. Passing years fades the brain box.
They finished Lancashire Combination champions and also won the Makerfield Cup and Lancashire Junior Cup. Latics also had that great FA Cup taking Newcastle Utd to a replay. They even managed to get 19 votes at the Football Lge AGM.

the season 53\54 when we played newcastle i think the team was lomas linsey parkinson lynn mycock banks butler livesey lomax lyon hindle great team in those days
