Used to travell to St Peters Secondry Modern at Orrell Post from Standish on the single decker Ribble buses....ah the memories..cheers!!!
Great photograph. I loved the Market Square. The old Wigan was a joy to behold. Imagine a Wigan 10k start and finish on the old Market Square?
That Ribble bus on the photo was a type in use in the mid to late 70s, I used to go to work in Ormskirk on one. I think they were brought in when pay as you enter took over from conductors.
The last buses left at 11.5..after that Wigan was empty apart from people who had missed the bus.

moureen your right in the 60s after a night out had to run many a time for that last bus wasnt easy with stileto heels on.

The Ribble bus is a Leyland National from the first batch of 50, (371-420 PTF717-766L) as it is dual door, and all subsequent Nationals were single door.
