Did anyone have any dealings with locomotives, referred to as utility engines? I recollect a couple being at Springs Branch, between 1946, and 1948. Were they built for some special purpose?

I believe that the Utility Locos were a quick build, during and after the war.

Ken. I did suspect that was the reason for their construction, thank you. Although they were the same size as a normal locomotive, they did not seem as sturdy. The only distinct item I recollect is, the tender was completely enclosed. The one I saw was on the line, the other side of the turntable.

albert maybe it was converted to oil firing hence the enclosed tender
