Marjorie Hankey first left front row.Later married Jim Latham.
Could the gentleman right at the back (head above the others), be Mr.Frank Shenton, who taught at Poolstock C of E School? He was a brilliant dancer and taught the girls at Poolstock school how to dance. He later became headmaster at St. Catherine's school in Wigan.
Maureen - there was a Frank Shenton who was Headteacher at St Catharine's but in the early 1950's when I attended - this appears to be the 1960's - he did have a son who was also tall, wore glasses (unlike Mr Shenton) and was also a teacher and this does look remarkably like his son.
Maureen. Correct. His first name was Arthur, Frank being his middle name.In 1955 he would have been in the sixth form at the Grammar School.
Come on lads, pay attention. This photo appeared in Nov 2011.
I have just noticed that there are two Shentons on this photo ie one wearing glasses, stood by the door at the back and this I think is Mr. Shenton's son, but the one I mentioned yesterday, who I thought was headmaster at St Catherine's is stood in the centre at the back and yes Greg he was at St. Cayherine's in 1950.
Maureen
Frank Shenton is the one next to the screen on the right. He had a younger brother David who died at the age of 7 from tetanus following a cut to his knee.
half of those sat on the floor were still at school when this photo was taken and had left in 59 or 60
I can fully confirm that the photo does include my grandfather, Frank, and my father, Arthur. Thanks for posting this online at such an opportune time, as my dad passed away on the 16th March.
By the way, that's Arthur to the right near the door and Frank is in the middle on the back row.
