Once upon a time, I did use the barber, he had the premises on the extreme left, as you look at the photograph. I lived in Lower Ince then. I am going back though, nearly sixty years. In the distance was an enclosed yard where the mortuary building was situated. On numerous occasions, when on night duty, I had the uneviable task of attending to a deceased person.
what the head above the door for.
twiss cafe used tobe a transport cafe going back to the days before the M6 motorway was built.
Cindy - I used to wonder about that head, too. I hope it was saved when the building was demolished. Unfortunately, the front came down quite quickly, and the area where the head was was a heap of rubble before I knew it was happening.
It was a pub.It was called Britannia Inn.
If you ever went in there when it was Twiss' Transport Cafe, the thickness of the mahogany counter would have told you, that it was a Walkers Pub originally.
Many happy dinners, I've had in there, along with the coal-baggers,garage workers, etc not to mention Celia & Jim Twiss, little Annie,& co....History now..:O(
When did the bakery burn down James? I seem to recall it was stil open around 1990 but can't remember after that.
Thanks
