This large Georgian house was situated on the corner of Grove Road and Lafford Lane, behind the high stone wall which still can be found there.
Demolished some years ago.
Scanned from old postcard.
Is this where the laundry was? Is there any history on the house? (when it was built, why it was demolished,
owners etc.?
Yes Ellen, it was the laundry in later years. Unsure as to the exact history, but sadly it was allowed to fall derelict after the laundry closed, then demolished.
What a pity that such a handsome building was allowed to become derelict; or that it was made into a laundry, even. I wonder if it was structurally sound?
I wondered if i could have a copy of this old postcard as i now live in the houses that are on the site and wopuld love to have up in house as historical reminder x
I used to work there in the laundry in the sixties as a van lad of 16 a nieve young lad. Can't remember the drivers name, he was fun and canny.
Many happy times working there. I'm now 50 years older but I'll never forget my time working there.🤔
I’ve been researching my family history and my ancestors lived here, the Bolderston family, as far as I can tell from at least 1849-1887. George and Mary Bolderston and their daughter Louisa. I found a newspaper article about her wedding to Edward Barff in Upholland in 1869. Thank you for sharing the photo.
