a painting from my All FEB Art Exhibition Local scenes of the past, on at The WiganPlus shop in the Galleries in Wigan
Hi Raymond, perhaps the painting should be called optomist at Wigan Pier. That chap with the rod and line takes the bait.
Hi Ray,
Surely this is taken from round the corner from Wigan Pier. to the left is Eckersley's chimney and the old boat repair yard. In the background the Orwell pub? bottom right corner is the entrance to the loading bay for the Trencherfield Mill. Nice picture , will try to pay a visit to exibition.
No working barges that I can see. Two pleasure-users' narrow boats, and perhaps a moored-up wide trip boat.... It may have been a scene from the past, but it wouldn't be uncommon in the boating season nowadays.
Yes David deffenitely narrow boats as I have been told many times before....this is however a lovely painting, if it is ok Raymond may I have a copy for my album....cheers!!!
If the painting was done today the fisherman rod would have been much longer and nearly stretching to the other side of the canal.
Derek is right about the actual location, but to a stranger it is in the 'Wigan Pier' area I suppose. Nice painting by the way.
