Don't think it's Empress Mill. Those are spinning frames, and Empress was a weaving mill.
Empress Mill, Ince was a single storey shed mill alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, spinning cotton in Ince, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It was operated by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation from the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. Production finished in 1975. It was the last mill in Ince to close, despite the intervention of Member of Parliament Michael McGuire, and a debate in the House of Commons on 20 March 1975.[2]
Was this the year the King & Queen visited Wigan?
Coronation 1953ish ?
12th May 1937 was the Coronation of King George and Queen Elizabeth, our present Queen's parents.
It must have been a year,or so after the coronation that the King & Queen, visited Wigan. I know it was before hostilties with Germany. I remember my mother arranging the Union Jack outside the front bedroom window.
My mum worked at the Empress, she was a spinner and she took me there when I was a child so I must have only been about six but I remember it. It is only recently I discovered it's full title is Empress of India.
