I don't really know, but from the back of my foggy mind comes the thought that the 'Prince of Wales Feathers'might also be the French 'Fleure De Lys' (don't know if I spelled it right)
Welsh sides normally wear the fleur de lys as seen in this picture. French sides have a Cockerel badge.
The Welsh team with the great Trevor Foster of Bradford Northern captaining the side and holding the ball.
I think I can offer up 3 more names - standing 2nd & 3rd in from left, Steve Llewellyn (St Helens) and Dyl Harris (Castleford), seated extreme left Derek Howes (Wakefield Trinity).
Front left knelt down I think is Dickie Williams,Warrington Leeds etc player. Not sure sgain but is the player on Trevor Fosters left hand side Glyn Moses, St Helens player. Not sure about him though.
From the "rugby league project" website, here I believe are the details of this match. European Championship 1949/50 - Round 6 Date Wednesday, March 1st, 1950 Kick Off 4:00 PM- Referee Charles Appleton - Venue Central Park (Wigan) Crowd 27,500 Result England 11 Wales 6
Welsh team, 1.Ralph MORGAN 2. Arthur DANIELS 3.Joe MAHONEY 4.Lionel WILLIAMS 5. Steve LLEWELLYN 6.Dickie WILLIAMS 7. Billy BANKS 8.Tom DANTER 9.Frank OSMOND 10.Eynon HAWKINS 11.Trevor FOSTER (c) 12.Derek HOWES 13. Bryn GOLDSWAIN.
The England side had no fewer than 6 Wigan players, Ryan, Hilton (who scored 3 tries), Cunliffe, Bradshaw, Egan, Gee and two others who were soon to join the club, Street and Featherstone. On that basis I'd like to change my identification of Dyl Harris (Castleford) to Frank Osmond.
You probably know this already Ron, but there is a long historical connection between Brittany and Wales, so your observations are probably quite accurate. This part of France is very much like Wales in character and spirit, the reason for this is very simple, they were once essentially the same people.
