Remember going to visit an elderly relative at Billing Road Hospital, would have been around the time of the above photo.
I lived near here. The grounds were lovely and very well kept.A memory of much better days, a gentler time. We all have to move on but people seemed nicer in those days..My lifelong friends in Wigan are still my very best friends although I have lots of new ones now.You just cannot beat Wiganners....
My birthplace in 1941, nice to see it as it was then - thanks for posting. I lived in Wigan for the next 26 years and then moved on with my job.
great pic my grandma was in for a time went to visit around 1964 what websites about
tricia is it you from 93 /95 billinge road (gaskell)
I remember it well. Lived in Billinge Road from 1950 when I was about 2 years old.
the proper name for it was Pemberton Cottage Hospital It started life as a scarlet fever hospital, then TB and lastly an old folk's home
my grandfather (giles Lowe) spent time in here in the late 30's/early 40's. he had T.B and had spent a lot of time in the sanitariam in Delamere Forest. my grandma had photos of him in Billinge road hospital that got accidently thrown out one time when she was decorating. She was devastated and cried for days. (wish we still had them)
lived in little billing rd recall demmings garage on corner and had big party In 1953 there we sort off give the hospital a wide berth or was it just respect what we were taught then
