Johnny Gee (back row extreme right), son of the great Wigan forward Ken, passed away far too early. He was an engaging and thoroughly decent bloke.
I remember John Gee, he was a lecturer at Wigan Tech. A very entertaining and humourous bloke.
Strange isn't it. I knew three of these people from different situations and never realised that they would have known each other from rugby. Des Seabrook, maths teacher Up Holland High, Bill Wilson from Standish, head teacher at Charnock Richard Primary, and John Gee, maths lecturer at Wigan Tech. Small world!
Correction, I think John Gee taught English
Quite right Briang, John Gee taught Engliah.
I bow to superior knowledge of others but "Joe Ryan" bears a strong similarity to Jim Berry but not aware Jim was ever Captain of the team.
I was taken by my uncle, Les Boardman to see Wigan play Warrington (I think) It was 1964 or 65 (I think, it was a very long time ago) and Billy Boston scored twice. The first try he burst through the last tackle, nearly killing the man on the way. The second time the crowd held its breath as Boston bore down on the hapless defender who had planted his feet and closed his eyes but just before impact Boston rose onto his toes like a ballet dancer and went round the man and was over the line and touching down before the defender opened his eyes. Halcyon days.
