Looks like the fair coming down and the stall holder taking advantage of the space. Of course the stall holders missed out on their spots when the fair was happening. Cheers!!!
Seems more logical that the fair equipment is being dismantled, to go off to another location. The stall holders' are making an early start for what they hope to be a busy money making day. It was always a splendid market. Owen Owen was a very well known fruit & veg; wholesalers.
Looking at the sun's light and the general atmosphere, I would say that is cerainly the end of the May fair...
CERTAINLY it is...
Great photo, brings back the memories
Notice the council Bin Truck fitted with the Palidin Bin lift.Patented by Walker Brothers, and made at Pagefield Works Wigan.Notice the Binman stood on top of the Bin reaching in the back of the truck.would not be allowed today.Health & Safety.
I would agree with the date 1960"ish. The vehicle at the front of the first lorry on the left is a thames van. These had bad front suspensions and used to bounce along the road.
Great Memories from my youth..
All the fairground rides and stalls were wonderfully and colourfully decorated and came to life in the dark when all the lights went on. The noise, smells and buzz was so exciting.
