Wow, what a shot to have taken - presumably that's Eckersley Mill on the left, and Westwood Power Station to the right. A pinpoint for the photographer's standpoint would be useful.
rev taken from the red pond area.
If you look on google maps, there are two ponds that nearly meet. These are situated just down and to the left of the mills. The currys superstore is just to the left of where the photograph was taken.
What a dramatic photograph that means so much to me and my family as generations of Lomax's worked at Eckersley's. These bricks & mortar are ingrained and become apart of you when you have such a connection. I care very much for the complex and have great anger towards the owners who see it as a problem. Perfect world for them is to have the site cleared once it's finally fallen down to start with a blank canvas.
Is the mill still running here as theres smoke come from the chinney?
I don't remember this chimney smoking in the mid '80's, and can't help thinking that the pic may be older than that. Sadly, that particular chimney no longer exists, and the adjacent engine house has no roof.
The chimney exists Nev, just reduced. I also suspected the pic maybe older as surely the homes on this side of the Douggie would have been built?
Andy, you are quite correct regarding that chimney.
thinking back Nev, i took the photo's in 1984 just after moving to baker street.
