Type 40 on the up whelley line just leaving the WCML at Standish junction. Look how much this goods/freight train took traffic off our roads.

Horrible, lifeless creatures...To think that these monstrosities replaced the Coronation class...Awful, awful, decision...

What's more awful is the closure of the railway line. It did a great job for many years.

Just happen to have an old Working Timetable for 1971.
Train no. 8F89 was the 04.45 freight from Carlisle Yard to Warrington Arpley Sidings, via the Settle & Carlisle line, Blackburn & Farington Junction. If it was running to time (highly unlikely) it was due past Standish Junction at 10.39. Next stop Platt Bridge Junction for a crew change.
