You mean the cooling towers have gone?
Well, I agree they added a certain kind of atmosphere.
But do you really regret their disappearance?
what a dreary, depressing, uninspiring vista.
The only building of testimony, and character, in the photograph, is the church, and possibily the dwellings.
What planet have you been on, Michael? The towers went years ago. Good riddance to them!
no , i meant the cricket field.
should imagine he is talking about poolstock cricket club.i played there many times so sad to see it go.
I wasn't sorry to see them go..many years ago my brother Michael was serving his apprenticeship at Taylors mill in Wallgate, when they brought some components from these towers..he was doing what had to be done..his overseer was called away, when someone switched the power back on,he got electrocuted with thousands of volts.spent months in Wythenshawe hospital..had extensive skin grafts and suffered an awful lot,so no I wasn't sorry, they were a grim reminder.
if you haven't been passed lately, the cricket field is becoming housing estate
I remember going there in the early 60s to watch David Allen, England off-spinner, make a guest appearance. Does anyone remember why he was there? A charity event?
