Suffolk Regiment service cap badge, possibly dating to the late 19th century/early 20th century.
The motto Montis Insignia Calpe, meaning 'emblem of the Rock of Gibraltar' refers to the Suffolk Regiment's role in the Siege of Gibraltar in the 1780s.
Thank you so very much Mick, can I ask where youmgot the information from please? I found the badge in my dads old tin, it could be his (but very unlikely), or it could be my grandads. I've got lots of photos of dad and grandad in army uniforms but haven't a clue where to start in identifying any of them
Susan Go on. Google Ref. Suffolk Regiment and you will likely get the information you request.
Susan. Did you not have any success with the M.O.D. website?
I left some details with them and they are going to get back to me Albert. Is it likely that my dad or grandad ( both from Wigan) would be in the Suffolk regiment?
I don't know much about this subject Susan but when researching my husband's famiy history I found that his father's friend from the East End of London served with the Lancashire Fusiliers...so it's quite possible that someone from Lancashire could have served with a Suffolk regiment.
my grandad was with the middlesex regt, his uncle the horse artillery in ww1,pals battalions i think where not as popular after the somme massacres with army command.just depends when they enlisted.
