I lived in Thackeray House on the 10th floor when i got married in oct. 1969 until july 1971 have very fond memories of living there
Surely it's Worsley Menses and not March Green?
This place was horrible. My gran used to live there and it was a dreadful place. Lots of drug users and break ins towards the end before they pulled it down. There were even more problems when there was next to no one living there.
I for one was keen to see the place go.
My Grandad Bill Ferguson was the caretaker at Masefield House, Dryden and Thackeray during the 1970's and 1980's. I have very fond memories of travelling to Wigan and staying at the flats, which seemed very exciting to me as a child. My Grandad and Nana Peggy retired to Co.Durham in the late 1980's. My nana was a Wigan lass, and we talked often of those days. They both sadly passed away in the last 18 months. I wanted to mention them here as a tribute to their memory and my treasured memories of Wigan.
