Photograph submitted by Marguerite Isherwood. Thought to have been taken by Jim Isherwood. Sorry about the quality but this photograph, along with 5 more(see others I have put on the site) I spent a couple of hours last night "cleaning up" only for the file to have been deleted by mistake.

The Public House is The Angel,on the corner of Wellington Street and Scholes,the shop next door was Mc Avoy's butchers on the opposite corner was The Shamrock.

Thanks for posting - it has revived a long distance but clear memory of being in the butcher's shop with my grandmother as customers around 1948, I'm sure I can remember seeing the fresh tripe on a tray, perhaps it's just my fanciful imagination.

Its a good job some people had the foresight to take these pictures as memories can play tricks. Opposite side of this pub was the good old Scholes picture house...I think, perhaps a little bit further down where now the posh new houses/flats are.
