Great map of Aspull, can you tell me where I could get copies of these. Thanks.
The railway line crossing Scot Lane went to Aspull Pumping Pit.
Thanks for the map Brian. Much has changed particularly the housing developments. At this time Aspull looked more like a hamlet than a village. I wonder how it got it's name. I heard a story about the hard pull up Ivy Brow for the horse and carts.
John, I think Aspull is a corruption of 'Asp on the Hill' a term relating to the fact it once was covered by trees and ofcourse it is on a hill.
Hi Walt, makes sense what you say. Did Sammy Southern get in touch?
John, no Sammy hasn't yet - but there's time. The railway that crossed Scot Lane must have been very close to where I lived on Scot Lane. No 5 pit can be seen on the map and that was directly opposite our front door, just across the road. I obviously can't remember the line but can remember playing in the shaft of 5 pit as a child, it would have been back filled ofcourse
Walt, I did let you have Sammy's email address didn't I?
