Top man at the Observer, love Wigan World page.
Geoffrey Shryhane,is a Wigan treasure his column in The Wigan Observer,
Is always thought provoking ,I don't always agree him, but wouldn't miss his
contribution for the world.Wigan and the Observer will be the poorer if he ever decides to retire,Tuesdays would never be quite the same.
I am happy to say Geoff has been a pen-pal of mine for 25 years. We have met on a few occasions but correspond mainly thruugh letters, and now email too. What a handsome lad you were, young Geoff!
Mr Wigan Observer and a lovely man.
Where's little Ern?
I remember Geoff's first couple of weeks at the Obo, I had just started work at McOnnell News Service and was just beginning to learn who my professional colleagues were. We were all working a fire in Ince, that is where we first met, Along with the late great Chronicle journalist, Geoff Barnes, who was a bit of a prankster. I had shared a ride with Barnes, Geoff Shryhane and I were both too young to drive. Barnes says to Shryhane, c'mon I'll give yo a lift back to the office." Geoff Sryhane replied nervously, "I can't, I'm on the Observer's Bike." none the less we have been friends ever since.
Think he spends more time in Asda than some of the cashiers.
