St Trinians wouldn't stand a chance.
A great picture i wonder who they where
Well what can i say about this photo! Can only see 3 pupils smiling and wasn't like get in her "Boss" way with a face like that!
I would imagine that this was Sunday school rather than day school . All wearing hats and Sunday best, possibly Easter time, many of hats have.flower attached, Easter Bonnets perhaps !.
The young lady 3rd from the left back row is my Grandmas sister Ethel Sutch, she would have been about 10 years old at the time. The photo was taken in the School Yard next to the gate that led to the play area.
They certainly all do look they have the proverbial "fear of God" in them!!
The reason for all the stern faces is simple, back in the early 1900s the camera needed several seconds of exposure for a clear image to be captured, no action shots those days. The photographer would instruct subjects to remain very still and not to smile as this require more dicipline than a serious face, someone changing facial expresion would appear blurred.
