Friday mornings - a wander round the old Market Hall and outside market, and then into the Park for a few pints of their superlative Draught Bass. Sheer bliss.
Mrs Brown's Pleasure Palace. Was it the only pub in Wigan Town Centre with Waitress Service?.
There was also waitress, service in the Market Hotel, when Colin Cook, was mine host.
Who was the man who made and sold keys outside the old market hall - he regularly had a drink in this pub?
I used to go to 'Room at the Top' club, then nip in here about 10 o'clock for a pint or two, then nip back to 'The Room'. They used to stamp your hand for a pass out.
Den.S they also had waitress service in the Commercial, seem to recall a lady named Alice used to come round with a tray?
Closed on a Friday, in the middle of March 1985, as I recall.
Sadly missed.
Dave Johnson, I believe you are right about the Commercial, I remember calling there with a few mates after work and the Landlady brought the ale round on a tray, she also brought a huge plate of cheese and onion butties which she refused to take payment for. Wouldn't happen today.
