Hi david
When i commented on there being two David Heaton's in class i never expected to hear from one of you.
Big Surprise!
So you have this photo too, same as Lyn. Might there be a date on the back.
Is it year 3B?
If so i've got it completely wrong. I was so sure Miss Bisbrown was our last form teacher at school.
That would make it 4B, 1961/62.
Lyn has'nt made any further comment so i'm hoping that you will. You would'nt happen to have any more class photo's would you David. It would be great to see them if you do, as i do'nt have any at all.
Good to see all those familiar faces again, and just as i remember. Could have been only yesterday.
Does anyone remember Geoffrey Nichols? 3rd from left on front row? It couldn't have long after that photo was taken that he was killed in a tragic accident. He was on a tractor near Porters Wood when it overturned and trapped him underneath. He lived a few doors away from us and my brother was one of the group of lads who were with him that day.
I was also with a group of lads in porters wood on the day Geoff Nicholls was killed. Something that has stayed with me all my life. Geoff's grave is in St Johns graveyard in Pemberton
Hi Albert
Thought you lived in Bell Lane but was'nt sure.
When you mentioned Geoff Nichols in your previous comment, it jogged my memory and i thought something happened to him when we were young.
Have just read the comment by Kath Millet, and now i remember
so sad. I did'nt know Geoff well, but i'm thinking he lived in Dean Crescent too' or have i got that wrong?
Porters Wood, is that off Springs Road behind Pennington House or have i got that wrong aswell? Bye Albert
Hi Ann.
Porters Wood is just behind the heinz factory on Spring Road. you can google it on google maps just type in Porters Wood Wigan. Me and my mates spent many a summer day climbing trees and making swings in Porters. Happy days indeed.
Another thing I remember about Geoff was that he had a small patch of white hair toward the front of his normally dark hair,it was quite distinctive and unusual.
Regards Albert
