Beautiful property, great shot. What is it used for now.
I remember passing there on our Sunday afternoon walks.
I recall it being used as an orphanage or some kind of child care home circa 1959/60 because as a young girl in the girl guides several of us used to go and help out and play with the children to help gain our child care badges. I apologise if my memory is wrong.
It was used in the 50s as a Residential Nursery.
It is now owned by the NHS and used has a nursing and doctors college along with Lancaster University and UCLAN.
The council around that time also purchased Bank House which was next door to The Elms it stood in the grounds of what is now Marylebone Park, unfortunately this mansion was demolished to make way for houses on the corner of Milton Grove/Tennyson Avenue.
Is that what used to be The Christopher Home?
No, the Christopher Home is between Infirmary & the Elms. In & 70's it was used as Doctors residence.
In the 40s the Elms was used as St John’s youth club
