It looked so much nicer back then. What a pity places have changed so much.
Gordon, great photograph. Is there any chance of sending me a larger scan?

Is this were the undertakers is today?
The Alan Jones undertakers offices is where the Brewers Arms used to stand. The side street to the right is Haworth Street, I lived at number 17 in the eighties.
Chartered accountants P. A. Hull's offices now stand where The Brewers Arms used to be, I think the pub was demolished around 1960. The shop in the picture is now Jones's funeral directors. Incidentally...the street on the right is Haworth Street; I lived at number 17 in the early eighties.
One thing that stands out in these photo's is the lack of any litter...and it is also a great shot Gordon.
thank you so much Gordon.I lived in the brewers arms around late 50s i was about 9 or 10 and went to st benedicts, i am trying to get pics together to put in a book for my daughter plus some memories of the places i have lived. thank you again
Gordon im not very well up on computers how would i get a copy of this pic
Post your email address and I'll send you a copy of the picture.
maureen the reason there is no litter on the street is because back then there was less paper and wrapping material
+newspapers were used in the toilets or to start the coal fires and nothing was wasted or thrown away
chrysalis. Right cick on the photo then click on "save picture as" then save it to your pictures folder

Hello,
As with many others my age, I suspect, I am researching my family history and it seems a Jesse A Willcox was a publican at Brewer's Arms in 1919. It would be really helpful of anyone could throw any light in this or indeed, on anything concerning the Willcox's (this spelling only) in the Wigan area. My grandmother was Mary Willcox (1893-1968).
There was a Brewers Arms in Wigan town centre near the old police station.
