Where on Pem was this? I remember the Queens at the end of Wardley Street.
The tram is outside what is now TGs John
The Queens hotel on the left of the picture, is on the corner of Woodford Street. The third shop past the Hotel, was owned by Harry Mason.Hidden behind the tram,is Englands, the butchers. The pub on the right, is the Black Bull, which stood at the bottom of the bottleneck.
Last comment should have been GTs not TGs.
Thank you Ron for this great photo - it helps us family history folks to see what places looked like when our family was alive.
John - the Wardley St pub was The British Queen; later Pemberton Lighting, and now demolished.
The Queen's Hotel in the picture closed all around the late 1950s.
You're doing a great job Ron with your picture sorting. Sort of a spring clean. I've often looked through some albums and thought 'this could also be in XXXX'. Well done!
Great to see the old photo's. I think my family may have had a cloggers shop there in the 1800's. Was there a Victoria Hotel near there?
I love this photo! My Great Grandma owned the Queens Hotel. Would like to see more pictures.
Love the photo Linda we're could I get a copy
My aunt Hannah worked at the British Queen as a domestic nurse in 1901 when she was 12.
