Such memories! How I loved going on that tractor through the cool, shady Plantations. I actually vaguely remember the one before this that was VERY rattly and had a canvas roof; my friend's Grandad used to sell the tickets and they cost threepence, (old money).
Marvelous photo. But isn't that the Progress With Unity coat of arms. Post 60's?
Great photo! It reminds me of school holidays in the 50's and 60's. Spent many happy days roaming around Haigh Hall. It's sad that the kids today don't have the freedom that we did.
Wonderful memories, a trip to Haigh hall was as good as any holiday in those days.
I think this was after April 1974 because the term 'Leiisure Train' was only applied then. The photo must be for a special reason because the tractor didn't normally go right up to the hall.
wonderfull photo ron this must have been a special day coz if you enlarge it most of the kids look asian?
or is it my eyes?
No, I think you're right, Josie.
I remember the lads would emerge from the trees, after the tractor had left the terminus and jump onto the back for a free lift. Risking limb to save 3d.,I recall one boy falling off the back and being scared for life
thanks irene i wonder what was going on unless they had come to visit that day and without sounding disrespectfull if it was 50s/60s you didnt see many asians in wigan.
If it was still running today picture the length of the queue all us 'oldies' but still young at heart.
