Ince Moss shunting yard, with the main line from Wigan to Liverpool on the left, passing the "control offices" in the background.
Out of a signal box window.
Not a railway buff but Springs Branch?!
It's looking towards Springs Branch - Fir Tree junction line to the right - you can see the now demolished bridge over the West Coast main line, Ince Moss Colliery would be to the left
Mick which signal box
Bamferlong (pemberton corner)in the top left hand corner of photo you can see the old guards booking on point.
Directly behind the tall lamp is Taylors Lane, Bamfurlong is top right
This photo reminds me of when I worked at Springs Branch sheds, which was beyond the control offices, if the turn table was out of order we used to take the engine
( steam )round " the triangle",from the sheds up to Platt Bridge box, back to Firtree and down to Ince Moss, then round to Springs Branch box and back on the sheds, hence turning the engine for it's next job.The signalmen didn't like you doing this manoeuvre. Bit of useless information for you train buffs.
This must have been nearing the end of the direct route to the Lancashire Union line. Two things noticed: the signal on the right, from Fir Tree Junction is taller. Hence, the line from Whelley, Platt Bridge, and Central line having priority. Also noticed, to the lines closure, in question: the 'slow' signals have been removed from each gantrey. Anyone else have any other thoughts?
looks like the photo was taken from the roof of Ince Moss shunters cabin the right hand line leading to north end & pemberton corner
