I am trying to capture the background rather than the foreground in this sequence of images of 78040 heading towards Hindley station. Dated probably 1958.

1 shows the slaggie at the top of Belle Green Lane and the lower portion has John Englands (Markland Tube) factory coming into shot with the beginning of the small slag heap at the side of the Deep Pit (pond).

dk,I'm having a good look at these stills and trying to suss em out. The one showing the pipeworks and the slagheap next to the lodge I'm ok with. The other one and one or two of your previous ones are confusing me.The slagheap at the top of Belle Green, although a big one, looks too big and too close on the stills.I'll have another look at me maps.

The shot shows the slag tip, the top of Petticoat Lane and the first building of John England Tubes. I always remember Pickervance Haulage from St Helens and Allen Brothers from New Springs working on the slag tip in the 1960s. You could hear the screening plant and machines running, the slag tip was quite a size then.
