I loved Adams Stores. In a Lancashire where no-one mops their steps or boils their whites anymore, they still sold donkey-stones and dolly-blues!
anybody remember adam stores being in scholes from scholes crossing going up hill across from boltons I remember going there a lot they sold all sorts
Oh, Irene, your donkey stones and boiling whites comment really spoke to me! I remembered boiling my now middle-aged daughter's
socks and underwear in a stock pot, and getting teased about it! However, years later she confessed that she was always proud of how her white and clean her socks caused comment!
i remember adams stores in scholes my mam always went there for her odds n ends as she put it
I bet you would have found Margaret's vinegar bottle there.
Do you know, Maureen, I think I DID get my "thumbprint" vinegar bottle there in the 70s/early 80s.....I used to buy from there a lot. And the fishmongers stall which shows the vinegar-bottle WAS in the Market Hall; I imagine the Merket traders bought their stuff off each other.
Irene...i would love to go back and pay a visit as it was for one day just to drink it all in.
