I keep looking at all these photos of the wigan indoor market and can,t remember none of the stalls.I,m wondering if it is the wigan market.Unless some one know different.
Yes, it is Wigan. I recognise Smaile's butchers, Harold Bradshaw's Menswear and the dried fruit and nut stall.
yes this is the old market, this photo is of George shoe repairer great man, he was in new market too but sadly died too young.I worked opposite on wiltex. His sister Lilian had a stall out side near keys she sold toiltries and all sorts
Anne, do you remember Anderton's (gloves, ladies' scarves, etc.)? Was their stall opposite this one?
yes Iremember Andertons it was behind George in old market and in new it was same alley as Hartleys were I worked.Next door to George in old was Doris then her sister Kath selling jewellery, scarves, gloves, think they used to work on Andertons.Did you work in market?
Doris was my aunt. She died in 1985 and Kath, her sister, died three years ago, in 2008. I'd love to hear your memories of them, and will try to contact you privately.
Anne, my e-mail address is wingates55@yahoo.com. I'd be very grateful if you would make contact. Michael.
george one of the nicest blokes i have ever know he was a true gent and he is sadly miss by eveyone who knew him.
Both happy & sad to see this photo of George. He took such pride in his work. Everyone looked out for each other. He had lots of respect for Doris & Kath, they looked after him. Fond memories.
George was my brother, can I obtain the photograph.? Appreciate all the comments, all very true, thankyou
