A gem of a little street..
Lovely..I could have spent all day in Tickles..it was just like an Aladdins cave...I also remember the barbers just further down was the first to have a nude photo of Marilyn on the wall just inside his shop..you couldn't get past for all the lads.
Great to see that one of Wigan's landmarks has been captured so well for posterity.
walked up and down there many times to wct canteen at top of weind from early 60s
Was there a men's shop down there ? Harry Somthing
Harry Jones, run for many years by a gentleman Ron Heaton.
Compare this with The Grand Arcade, which is full of elegant stores, modern technology and piped announcements, but that's progress, isn't it?........ISN'T it?
The photo of Marilyn, called "Driftwood" was in Russell Lyons barbers shop...I've sat facin' it waitin' fer me crop many a time, in the 50's
In the 1950s I was employed by wigan corporation transport in Melverley St in the maintainance shops. They were the happiest days of my life, and we had dinner at the wct cafe top of the weind
