Hard to believe but this was once the great central railway route from wigan central to glazebrook in 1986 at lower ince.
After closure & track lifting took place this section became flooded,& in 1986 was something of a long & very deep linear pond.
This view is taken from the bridge on the actual springs branch looking towards hindley south.

The L&YRs hindley to pemberton junction line overbridge also spanned the G.C. route in the foreground,(the embankment marked by the wigan MBC sign on the left).

That cutting is still flooded and has some really big fish in there, you can just make out St Nathanials church just right of centre.

There are Harry, and some big Rudd, but they are mostly under the bridge, the fish originally came from the pond that was on the wagon works site, there was a drain which ran into a pumping plant,,but mostly it didnt work, so a lot of the fish escaped down onto the line where they have been ever since, I suppose I made it worse seeing as how I was slowly filling in the pond with landfill from the skips we hired out from Thompsons, the pond was netted and a lot of the fish went to Garswood Anglers, compliments of Joe Sixsmith, but a good many escaped into the cutting, and too my knowledge have never been taken out, and when you think we closed in 1983, and fish had been getting away for a good few years before that, wel I leave itto your imagination as to how many fish are in there.

The line at Ashton station (Haydock Park) was like that before they filled it in.
