1957 was the 650th anniversary of Upholland Church and all C of E schools in the area contributed to the occasion. This is one of Digmoor Schools floats depicting the murder of Upholland Church`s patron saint, Thomas Becket, at Canterbury Cathedral by Henry III knights in 1170. I think the procession eventually ended up at Upholland Moor School`s playing field where there were a few stalls and a roped off arena with various entertainments. Has anyone else any other photos or memories of the event they are prepared to share?
My mother knitted the 'chain mail' helmets (knitted in thick string and dad painted them silver). Dad also made the swords and shields. I was a knight but I don't know where I was when this picture was taken. Alan Bolton

Alan, if you were a Knight then the Knight I thought may have been Graham Bradley is probably you. Unfortunately it`s not a good view as only the top of your head is visible. Have you any idea who the monk with his back to the camera may have been?
