Great set of photos Dave, the L&Y Pemberton loop embankment can be seen, a steel girder bridge span over this line, and just a little further on, the ex Manchester to Wigan Central line went under this section of track.
In Chris Coates' book on Springs Branch he mentions Chain Pit Sidings between the shed and Taylors Lane. Can anyone say how these sidings got that name? Did there used to be a pit of that name nearby?
I don't remember a line from the shed to Taylors lane. I do know a line branched off just under Taylors lane. bridge it crossed Warrington rd. Spring View where the garage is, I remember it went to the wagon works, (later a coke wash) it continued past the wagon works, maybe it went to a pit at sometime? the time I'm talking was in the 40's and 50's
THIS LINE GOES FROM SPRINGS BRANCH TO TOP PLACE THROUGH INCE WAGON WORKS ACROSS MANCHESTER ROAD PASSING BELLGREEN LANE TO TOP PLACE
that is the remains of springs branch which is where the depot got its name from
