Photo of parbold signal box & gated level crossing,taken early one morning in 1986,the heavy gates were entirely hand wound & operated from the signal box by using a mechanical wheel near the windows overlooking the level crossing.

The gates were replaced by modern hydraulic lifting barriers & warning lights in the early 1990s,but were still controlled direct from the box by using a push button pedestal control panel that replaced the wheel.
