Centre are the Great Acre bowling greens; ‘Camels Hump’ not yet built upon, ‘Whitheads’ pitch at the bottom of Coppul Lane & Central Park to the left
I've just been comparing the photo with a 1907 map of the area. It's really good. There was a thread in places about Mint Terrace / Primrose Hill area. You can actually work out what's still there and what had disappeared by then. Central Park was a great reference point as I don't know Scholes.
What a shame it looks as though Mint Court and Mint Cottage where my dad's family lived for many years (Hankins) had already been flattened. Grandsad ernie hankin and Grandma May Hankin had to move to Marsh Green into a flat! That would have been around 63/64 I guess. So this photo must be later. Can you imagine what is was like having lived there for years in a small holding keeping pigs, hens and the like and growing all his own veg having to move to a council flat? Granddad didn't live very long after they were forced to move and I am convinced that was the major contribution to his death. Those people behind the decimation of Scholes have a lot to answer for!!!!!
