I can recognise the Nelson, but what is the name of the pub in the centre, pictured between the shops, its certainly not the Cross Keys ???
Fabulous pictures Dennis, wish Hindley still looked like that. Thanks for posting.
The Wheatsheaf, Aitch. My husband was born in Bridge St.
Wheatsheef Inn 11-13 Bridge St.
Cracking pic Dennis
im nearly sure its the wheatsheaf it was pulled down 1960 approx the british legion was next to it or close to it
Wasn't the legion also known as the Ivy leaf club.
Not heard of The Ivy Club, Wanner, so can't comment, but it later became Castaways night- club. Still waiting for your dvd; haven't forgotten you!
my grandad was the landlord of the wheatsheef , i think he came out of the pub in the late 50s
I knew I had read it somewhere the wheat sheaf was 15-17 Bridge St and the Legion 11-13
No problem re the DVD Irene.

Thats a great shot of old Hindley.
The 1891 census shows my g/g/uncle Samuel Gregory running the Lord Nelson. Before that he had the Queens Head on Chapel Green Rd.
Where the Wheatsheaf stood is now Danes Avenue
The cross kets was to the right just below the police station. It now a care home stroke nursing home now. The wheat sheaf was just before mill lane on the left. My friends father once lived there. Oxford st rings a bell
